The modern vibrant Southbank was previously the Elizabethan entertainment district where you could find inns, taverns, brothels, bear baiting and, of course, theatres - including Shakespeare's Globe

Add into the mix Dickensian cobbled streets, a pirate ship! magnificent riverside views.

Then there's Borough Market ( a foodie's heaven ) the Tate Modern Gallery  ...and to finish, the Millenium Bridge and the best view of St Paul's Cathedral.

Did you know?...

The only remaining wherryman's seat is hidden away in Bear Gardens.  Wherrymen provided the original taxi service across the Thames to the theatres and taverns in Elizabethan Southwark.
